This beautiful mosaic piece unveils the incredible life journey of Carrie Salone Johnson and her family, shining a spotlight on the enduring legacies of her parents. Moreover, it pays homage to the historical leaders who left an indelible mark on Deland, Florida, the place she proudly calls her hometown at 401 South Adelle Street.
But this mosaic is not just about family and local history; it's a vibrant tapestry woven from 720 images of African American and African icons throughout history. From the likes of President Barack Obama to the fearless Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the resolute Rosa Parks to the distinguished Ambassador Andrew Young, it embraces figures such as Emmett Till, the brave Tuskegee Airmen, and the unforgettable George Floyd, among others.
This artwork is a jubilant celebration of those extraordinary individuals who invested their time, homes, resources, and wisdom in shaping and nurturing Carrie's remarkable journey. It's a tribute to the pivotal roles that family, friends, community, and ancestors have played in her life, and a living testament that their influence will continue to breathe life into the next generation.
